6 Ways to Love Your Skin Today

Your skin is the body's largest organ and requires a lot of love. There are many big habit changes you can adjust that can have an impact on your skin, but there are also smaller, easier, and less expensive ones as well. Here are a couple of small things you can add to your day to love your skin a little extra.

Drink more water.

This isn't revolutionary. We all know that drinking water is important. But adding extra water to your day, or replacing sugary beverages with a bottle of water can have a drastic impact on your skin's health. Adding a couple of extra cups of water to your day can help reduce wrinkles by keeping your skin hydrated and maintaining elasticity. Additionally, it helps fight acne and dry skin and gives you that boosted glow. We know this isn't rocket science, but it is a simple, easy, and inexpensive thing to add to your day!

Get more sleep.

There are obvious negative effects of poor sleep on your skin. We've all suffered from under-eye puffiness and dark circles, a dead giveaway that we didn't get the best night's sleep. In the hustle of the week, it's easy to lose track of time and not prioritize quality sleep. Getting over seven hours of sleep a night can give your skin an immediate boost, as well as protect your skin for the long term. Increased sleep each night helps skin age slower, heal from outside stressors quicker (like sun exposure), and keep your skin glowing. We all know that sleep is important, but it's easy for it to take a backseat when we have so many responsibilities and tasks. Trying to settle into bed an hour or two earlier each night can be a free and simple way to love your skin today.

We've all suffered from under-eye puffiness and dark circles, a dead giveaway that we didn't get the best night's sleep.

If this is a struggle for you, a great way to start is by setting a reminder to do your skincare routine at the same time each night. Once your skin care is all good to go, you're more likely to settle in for the night, open a book or journal, and wind down. Additionally, make sure to turn that blue light off of your phone if you have to look at it before bed, and check out of social media at least an hour before bed. A winddown routine can do wonders for your sleep!

Wear SPF.

Especially living in Southern California, we're constantly in the sun, and we love it! There are lots of benefits to being out in the sun. Fresh air and sunshine do a lot of good for mental health and clarity, energy levels, and stress relief. It can also boost your immune system, vitamin D levels, and release serotonin (the happiness hormone).

With all the love the sun can bring us, it's important to have a layer of protection against the negative effects. Too much UV exposure to our skin can cause wrinkles, loss of elasticity, and skin cancer. Wearing SPF every day, even in the winter, can vastly protect your skin from damage.

Some of our favorites include Salt and Stone's Natural Mineral Sunscreen, available in SPF 30 or 50, Suntegrity's Natural Moisturizing Tinted Face Sunscreen, or Face Reality's Daily SPF 30.

Gua Sha.

You've probably seen this gua sha trend all over social media, and maybe you've asked yourself if it really works or if it's just a fad. We're here to say, we LOVE the gua sha method. It's a lovely add-on to any of our facials, but it's also a simple habit to add to your daily skincare routine. We recommend the Cordial Rose Quartz Gua Sha!

You've probably seen this gua sha trend all over social media, and maybe you've asked yourself if it really works or if it's just a fad.

Gua sha improves blood circulation and skin tone, promotes lymphatic drainage, and reduces puffiness, wrinkles, and under-eye circles. It tightens and reduces pore size and assists in stimulating pressure points.

After using a toner or face oil, hold the curved side of the gua sha to your face and move it up your jawline. Then move onto your chin and around the mouth! Finally, carefully stroke under the eyes.

Eat more greens.

Greens are excellent for combatting acne, strengthening, and detoxing the skin. Greens such as spinach and arugula are easy to add to almost everything. Layer on top of your morning avocado toast or in a protein-packed breakfast sandwich, mix it into your afternoon salad or grain bowl, or toss it up with some olive oil and seasonings as a side for your dinner. Adding more greens to your meals is an easy and effective way to love on your skin a little bit extra today.

Get a facial.

With a variety of options to fit your specific skin needs, getting a facial once a month to every six weeks is a great way to love your skin. Your esthetician can regularly check in and assess your current skin needs and pivot treatment to leave the skin glowing and rejuvenated. It's the perfect treat to keep your skin plump, healthy, and hydrated.
